The next in the six month updates of Ubuntu is now available.
Code named “Plucky Puffin” this latest update includes quite a list of new features and changes.
First, the update to the GNOME desktop environment, as this has been updated to version 48 bringing a few new features to the desktop.
Second, there is an updated kernel which is now running as near the latest version on 6.18. This update supports more newer hardware and includes improvements for NVIDIA graphics users, as the driver has been updated to version 570.
By far the best improvement in this update is the updated installer which now includes improved dual boot UX (with a focus on BitLocker protected Windows systems).
Ubuntu 25.04 is supported until January 2026 where users will need to have updated to 25.10. The next long term support (LTS) release is April 2026.
